Every couple weeks we will be posting a series called “Where on 99?” where we post a photo from somewhere along US 99 in California. Sometimes there will be hints but nothing that will give it away. Photos will range from new to old and will cover all of old 99.
Our first image was taken in 2007 and shows a section of highway that still looks the same today. Bonus points for what year the concrete was poured.
Hint: It is in Region 1.

UPDATE: Shasta County will be replacing the sign. Some good news at least. Still no word as to who took it or where it is now.
Sometime in the last week, one of the Historic Route 99 signs was stolen from the Mountain Gate area near Redding, CA in Shasta County (Region 1). The sign was taken from the corner of Wonderland Blvd and Fawndale Rd. The entire post was also taken, cut at the base. If you have any information regarding this theft, have seen the sign for sale, or anything else, please contact us! I will be hosting an online meeting next month to discuss Highway 99 in Southern California. It will be open to questions about the highway, its history, the Ridge Route, and depending on time – connecting highways like US 6. If you’d like to submit a question, use our contact form, specify it is for the meeting, and we’ll do our best to answer them in the meeting.
