New Website Feature

We’ve been working on adding more to our site to help spark interest in Historic Highway 99. Our newest addition “Highway 99 Adventures” is getting its start with Southern California as the first region to be covered. If you have a point of interest along the highway you’d like to see added, let us know.

Our 501(c)3 is official!

We finally got approval from the IRS as a 501(c)3 public charity today! As it is retroactive, all previous donations will be tax-deductible. Those that have donated should be getting a more formal letter soon for their taxes.

Moving forward, we will be opening a standard bank account so we will be able to accept checks and other donations a whole lot easier. It has taken a while to get the status, but we are very happy about it. We will be applying for exempt status in California soon as well.

We are just getting started and things are already going quite well. Slow, but steady. Thank you all for your support!

Membership Update

We are finally starting memberships! All memberships this started this month will be effective March 1, 2021. We are still waiting for our 501(c)3 status to come through, but it should be sometime in March. Your contributions will allow us to continue projects like ours in Calexico, to help promote the highway as well as the towns and businesses along it, and preserve what is left of former US Highway 99.

Come join us!

Where on 99? #1

Every couple weeks we will be posting a series called “Where on 99?” where we post a photo from somewhere along US 99 in California. Sometimes there will be hints but nothing that will give it away. Photos will range from new to old and will cover all of old 99.

Our first image was taken in 2007 and shows a section of highway that still looks the same today. Bonus points for what year the concrete was poured.

Hint: It is in Region 1.

Add your guess to the comments section below.

Monthly Meeting – Updated

We are starting a new feature, monthly Zoom meetings. Our next meeting, open to the public, will be on Thursday, March 4 at 5:30 pm. We plan to hold these meetings monthly. The timing will vary a bit until we can figure out a time that works for most people. Please join us and learn about what our organization is up to. Registration is required for this meeting. We look forward to seeing you there!
