On the website, Placerita Canyon should be cited as the 1st major Gold discovery in SOUTHERN California. Sutter’s Mill in Northern CA was first in California. (Sorry to be a perfectionist.) Thanks for the quiz, it was fun.
The discovery at Placerita Canyon was in 1842 and the one at Sutter’s Mill was 1848, making Placerita Canyon / Oak of the Golden Dream first in California as a whole. It just wasn’t as well attended as the northern discovery.
